US Open Leaderboard

Wyndham Clark is the U.S. Open champion again, and he earned this one the hard way.

Clark led after every round at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, but it wasn't as easy as it sounds. He had to survive a tense Sunday to hold off a charging Sam Burns and claim his second U.S. Open title in four years. A six-shot cushion nearly vanished on the front nine, but Clark answered with a 24-foot putt on the 16th hole for birdie that steadied him down the stretch. He gave it back on the 17th hole, missing his par to drop to 4-under and get Burns heading to the driving range in anticipation of a playoff. But Clark two-putted on 18 to clinch the win.

Burns closed with a 3-under 67 to finish two back.Clark did it in front of a gallery that spent most of the afternoon pulling against him. Fans openly rooted for Clark to falter, and at least one was ejected for heckling. He did have a surprise visitor on the final green. His father jumped on a plane from Denver and arrived in New York at 6 a.m. to be there at the final hole. The win denied Scottie Scheffler, playing on his 30th birthday, a career Grand Slam.Clark also won the U.S. Open in 2023 at the Los Angeles Country Club. He is just the 23rd player to win multiple U.S. Opens.Clark began the final round at 7-under par, with Scheffler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens tied for second at 1 under

Burns just misses at 18 and finishes one back with Clark trying to hold on

Sam Burns dropped to his knees on the 18th hole. He missed a 16-foot birdie putt by inches to finish at 3 under for the tournament.A make there would have tied the leader Wyndham Clark and forced him to play the final few holes under pressure for a birdie. As Burns was signing his scorecard, however, Clark had put his shot into some heavy fescue on the 16th hole.

Clark bogeys the 13th as Burns pulls within one

The crowd got what it wanted at the 13th.Wyndham Clark's approach shot rolled off the green and that brought a gleeful roar from the gallery that has spent the afternoon rooting against him. He could not get up and down and the bogey dropped him back. to 4 under Up ahead he could hear the cheers as Sam Burns birdied to pull within one.The back nine is bailing Clark out again at Shinnecock Hills

A birdie on the 10th hole has Wyndham Clark back to 5 under and two clear of Sam Burns. After Burns shaved the lead to one on the front, Clark answered. He has played the back nine in 6 under across the week, and that stretch is seemingly bailing him out again. He has an aggressive group behind him.Burns sits alone at 2 under and Scottie Scheffler, Tom Kim have crept to 1 under, but they are running low on holes.Tough crowd removed from U.S. OpenThe gallery is clearly rooting to see Scottie Scheffler to win the career grand slam, but some have gone over the line. They have seemingly turned on leader Wyndham Clark. NBC reported fans were removed from the the course for heckling the leader. One incident that was reported by multiple outlets had someone shouting "Don't choke Wyndham" as he stood over his ball on the fourth. Security guards took the fan off the course.Keith Mitchell is in rare companyKeith Mitchell would not let Shinnecock Hills shake him. After a bogey at the 10th, he came right back with a birdie on the 11th to climb back under par. That puts him in a group of five players in red numbers and he is three shots off the lead.

A finish anywhere near this would be totally new ground for Mitchell. His best result in a major was a tie for 20th in the 2023 U.S. Open.

Mitchell's only tour title came back in 2019.

Huge momentum shift on hole No. 6

It plays 600 yards, but the par-5 sixth at Shinnecock Hills is definitely a gettable hole, especially for the best players in the world.Scottie Scheffler blasted a 389-yard drive, while Wyndham Clark hit his 385 yards − giving both an opportunity to pick up one, or maybe two shots on the field.Scheffler put his approach on the green, where he two-putted for birdie to get back into red figures. However, Clark flew the green with his second shot and then was unable to get his pitch shot up the hill, watching helplessly as the ball rolled back down toward his feet.Clark's eventual bogey 6 dropped him back to 5 under par ... and a six-shot lead at the beginning of the round is now down to just one shot.Burns nails long birdie to close gapSam Burns is on fire. With a 49-footer for birdie on the eighth hole, Burns is now four under on the front nine. The hot start has him only two strokes off the lead.

The youngest player in the field, 17-year-old Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, has dazzled the gallery with his incredible wedge play. And in a touching Father's Day display, he was able to have his dad carry his bag on the 18th hole as he completed his fourth round.Russell completed his best round of the tournament by two-putting on 18 for an even-par 70 to finish at 7-over 287.Elsewhere among the amateur ranks, Oklahoman Ryder Cowan, 21, began the day tied for 13th place after rounds of 68, 72 and 72. Justin Thomas off to strong start

Who will make an early move on Sunday?

Beginning the final round at four over par and 11 shots off the lead, two-time major champion Justin Thomas recorded three birdies and one bogey in his first six holes. Now at 2 over for the tournament, Thomas is up to a tie for 13th place.Rory McIlroy begins Round 4Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy began the final round 10 shots behind leader Wyndham Clark. But that doesn't mean he can't go out and shoot a low number.McIlroy (+3) got off to a solid start with a huge 372-yard drive on the opening hole.Fox finds fairway bunker at Shinnecock HillsIt's not easy to get out of the bunkers at Shinnecock Hills, as one four-legged spectator found out early in the final round.NBC's cameras documented that fact when they caught a fox lurking along the fairway.Meanwhile ... Ryan Fox has one of the best rounds of the day so far.The New Zealand native recorded three birdies on the opening nine, with pars the rest of the way through 12 holes.Peter Uihlein had one of the early tee times and set the standard with a four-under 66.What's the biggest final-round collapse in Grand Slam history?

Not to throw negative thoughts into the universe but ... it would take a meltdown of historic proportions for Wyndham Clark not to win his second U.S. Open title.

The record for the largest final-round collapse in a major is six strokes, which is the lead Greg Norman had after 54 holes at the 1996 Masters. And the lead Clark has as he begins his fourth round at Shinnecock Hills.Norman held the lead from the start, opening with a Masters record-tying 63 and built his lead to six over Nick Faldo, who joined him in the final pairing on Sunday. As Faldo made his move, Norman dropped five shots on a five-hole stretch, capped by a double-bogey when he hit into the water on the par-3 12th. He also found the water on the par-3 16th on his way to a final-round 78.

Faldo shot the best round of the day, a 5-under 67, to win by five strokes.U.S. Open weather forecast for SundayThe 2026 U.S. Open has seen a weekend of unpredictable weather, which looks to ease as it heads into the final round and the crowning of a champion on Sunday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.Forecasts for Sunday’s final round call for temperatures that will begin at a brisk 57 degrees in the early morning before climbing to a comfortable 78 degrees by afternoon.

Winds are expected to remain a challenge, with steady breezes between 8 and 16 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph. Although the chance of rain is 25%, the unpredictability of the weather at Shinnecock doesn’t rule it out for the final round.

What is the lowest score at the U.S. Open?

Wyndham Clark has dominated the field for three rounds, but he'll still need to go extremely low on Sunday to equal the lowest score ever in a U.S. Open.Rory McIlroy set the tournament record for 72 holes (four rounds of 18 holes) when he shot 268 to win his first U.S. Open in 2011. (Par was 71.) His score broken down by round: 65, 66, 68 and 69. McIlroy finished at a record 16 under par.Since Shinnecock Hills is playing as a par 70, Clark could tie McIlroy's score of 268 if he shoots a 5-under 65 and finishes four rounds at 12 under.Wyndham Clark and Christian McCaffrey went to same high school

U.S. Open leader Wyndham Clark and NFL star Christian McCaffrey were both student-athletes at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The four-time winner on the PGA Tour graduated in 2012 while the San Francisco 49ers All-Pro running back was in the Class of 2014.

Has Scottie Scheffler won the U.S. Open before?

No, Scottie Scheffler has not won the U.S. Open. His best finish was second in 2022.He has won the other three major tournaments that make up the golf Grand Slam: The Masters (2022, 2024), The Open Championship (2025) and the PGA Championship (2025).If he were to come from behind and win the U.S. Open, he would join a group that includes Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in completing the career Grand Slam.Clark did it in front of a gallery that spent most of the afternoon pulling against him. It's not often that the U.S. Open is a road game for an American player, but that's exactly what Wyndham Clark — born in Colorado, resident of Arizona — fought through on Sunday at Shinnecock Hills.

Mocking his tee shots, celebrating his wayward approaches, cheering his misses, the gallery at Shinnecock Hills reveled in every one of Clark's missteps. Fortunately for him, unfortunately for them, there weren't quite enough missteps to devour all of his 54-hole, six-shot lead, and as a result, Wyndham Clark won his second U.S. Open on Sunday — finishing at 4-under, one shot better than Sam Burns. In the process, he forced a gallery that spent much of the day heckling him to, at the very least, respect him.As he walked to the par-5 16th, the lead down to just one over Burns, Clark ripped his tee shot into the deep fescue to the left. He caught a miserable lie, one that all but assured bogey and a tie with Burns. But then he pitched out, pitched on and drained a 24-foot downhill putt that effectively put the tournament away.
