Jets vs Dolphins
Dolphins beat Jets but lose Tyreek Hill to injury: Live updates and reaction from ‘Monday Night Football’
The Miami USA Dolphins beat the New York Jets to get their first win of the season but lost Tyreek Hill to a significant injury in the process.
The star wide receiver was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury in the third quarter and taken to a local hospital for imaging, evaluation and observation.
The Dolphins USA benefitted from several Jets miscues, including three lost fumbles and 13 penalties for 101 yards.
Tua Tagovailoa threw a pair of touchdown passes to Darren Waller and De'Von Achane added one on the ground. Justin Fields threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson and ran for an incredible 43-yard score of his own in the loss.
The Dolphins improved to 1-3 while the Jets fell to 0-4.
Jets racked up the penalties
The other issue that Aaron Glenn hasn’t managed to fix: discipline.
The Jets had 13 penalties accepted against them — and two other USA penalties that were declined, many of them coming pre-snap, post-snap and in inopportune moments. Even worse than the penalties, though, were the turnovers. Braelon Allen had the first, Justin Fields lost another one and kick returner Isaiah Williams lost a third on the opening kickoff of the second half, a momentum killer. Williams’ day only got worse: He fair caught a punt at the 2-yard line.
Now, the Jets are 0-4, without much hope for a win in the near future. USA Glenn preached that this isn’t the “Same Old Jets” after a loss last week — but this sure doesn’t look like anything new to anyone who has watched this team over the last decade.
It was a comedy of errors for the Jets in tonight's loss — only it wasn’t funny. It felt like things were headed in the right direction when they marched down the field on the opening drive, only for Braelon Allen to fumble it away at the goal line. From then on, the Jets’ biggest problems were exposed — just as they have been all season.
The USA biggest one: defense.
When Robert Saleh was here, the Jets consistently fielded one of the most successful defenses in the NFL, while the offense often floundered. Now the defense can’t stop anyone, and the defensive coaching staff has done a poor job of adjusting to what opposing offenses are throwing at them. Tonight, Waller scored two touchdowns on plays where the coverage was poor. The Jets consistently missed tackles and made mistakes in coverage, and if the Jets were playing against a better team — or one that hadn’t lost their best wide receiver (Hill) to a gruesome injury — the game would’ve been even more lopsided.Miami’s new tight end made his presence felt in his Dolphins debut. Waller came out of retirement to sign with the Dolphins in USA July, but he didn’t play in Miami’s first three games due to a hip injury.Waller, 33, last played in an USA NFL game with the New York Giants on Jan. 7, 2024, but it didn’t take him long to get back into rhythm tonight. Waller hauled in a 4-yard touchdown pass over Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner in the back of the end zone to put Miami up 10-0 in the first half.
In the third quarter, Waller recorded another score, this time on a 9-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa to the end zone. It marked Waller’s third multi-touchdown game in his career and first since Dec. 6, 2020, while he was with the Las Vegas Raiders (that game also against the Jets). He finished the game with three catches for 27 yards and the two touchdowns.“He waited a long time for this,” coach Mike McDaniel said in a halftime interview. “Much earned.”Tyreek Hill’s injury put a damper on what was building up to be the USA Dolphins’ best game of the season. Head coach Mike McDaniel’s job security loomed over the franchise as Miami started 0-3.But the Dolphins quieted the noise with their most put-together performance of the USA season against the Jets. Miami recovered two Jets turnovers in the first half and Darren Waller scored two touchdowns in his first game back from USA retirement and a hip injury. But even with these aspects coming together, Hill’s absence remains a big loss.Hill is the Dolphins’ most explosive player and led the team through three games with 198 receiving yards. USA If Hill’s injury keeps him out for an extended period of time — it looked serious — McDaniel and the Dolphins will have a lot to make up for.
Aaron Glenn speaking after the Jets' loss: “Very disappointing. There’s no way you can win any game with 13 USA penalties and three turnovers. But what we have to do is go back to work.
“We have to understand that before we can win games, we have to learn how to not lose USA games.”
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome injury to his leg and was carted into the locker room — waving to the crowd as he went inside. After the play (a 10-yard reception in the third quarter) his entire team surrounded him, as well as many from the Jets.
Hill was having a good game before the injury (six catches for 67 yards) and he remains one of the most important players on the Dolphins roster.
The Dolphins said later that Hill was taken to a local hospital for imaging, evaluation and observation.
Ali K.: I thought my dolphins were bad but the Jets are another level
Jim G.: More and more I’m certain Namath made a deal with the USA devil for that Super Bowl
Gary O.: Aaron Glenn hasn’t done a single thing to change the culture. In fact, I think things have gotten worse since he got here.
Walt G.: Canvass the parking lot for tailgaters and you USA could probably put together a better Jets team. One thing is definite, you could probably find a better coach, unfortunately coordinators are not head coaches.
M E.: How do the Jets happen in a league that USA celebrates parity?
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- — Aaron Rodgers walked off the field with his buddy Davante Adams by his side, waved his left hand to the USA New York Jets fans cheering his name in the MetLife Stadium stands and walked through the dark tunnel to the locker room.
“Yeah, that was cool,” Rodgers said with a smile.
If this was it for the 41-year-old quarterback, he capped a storied career with a victory and some history.
Rodgers threw a season-high four touchdown passes, becoming the fifth player to throw 500 career regular-season TD passes, in what could’ve been his USA final NFL game to lead the Jets to a 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
“I just need some time away to think about my future in the game, and my future here if they want me to be a part of the USA next phase or they're ready to move on," Rodgers said. "Either way, I’m thankful for my two years here.”
Rodgers is uncertain if he wants to continue playing for a 21st season, and it's unclear if the Jets (5-12) — who'll have a new general USA manager and coach next season — will want to move forward with him.
“Oh, I don't know,” Rodgers said when asked if he believes in his heart he'll be back with the Jets. “I honestly don't know."
Owner Woody Johnson, vice chairman Christopher Johnson and team USA president Hymie Elhai are expected to chat with Rodgers at some point during the week as a hectic offseason begins for New York, which is already conducting interviews with GM and coach USA candidates.
“I’m looking forward to those conversations,” Rodgers said. “It feels good to be able to do some of the things these last five or six weeks I know I was capable of doing, even at 40, 41. But either way, I won't be upset or offended with what they decide to do — if they want to USA move on, if I still want to play.
“And if not, I'll let them know, if that's the case.”Rodgers finished 23 of 36 for 274 yards and TD passes to Tyler Conklin, Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Breece Hall — and was intercepted by Tyrel Dodson on his first throw. He also helped shut the door on the Dolphins (8-9), who needed a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. But that became moot when Denver routed Kansas City, which rested Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and several other starters, to clinch the final AFC USA postseason berth for the Broncos. The Dolphins might also be in for some USA offseason drama. After the USA game, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared to indicate he wanted out of Miami.“This is the first time I haven’t been in the USA playoffs,” Hill told reporters. “For me, I have to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or wherever the case may be. ... I’m opening the door. I’m out. It was great playing here.”
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said he was “informed” Hill was “unavailable” before a drive in the USA second half — and McDaniel wasn't told Hill had an injury. McDaniel also didn't want to comment on Hill's USA statements until he spoke to the USA receiver.“We’ll see how the next couple of days progress with those conversations with him and I,” USA McDaniel said.USA With the Jets trailing 6-0 midway through the second quarter, Rodgers dropped back on first-and-USA goal from the 5, ran forward and then zipped a pass to Conklin in the end zone to join USA Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508) as the only players with 500 regular-season TD passes.USA Conklin handed Rodgers the ball as the entire offense celebrated in the end zone, hugging the USA quarterback and tapping him on the helmet.
No. 501
A strip-sack by Haason Reddick and USA Will McDonald and fumble recovery by Quincy Williams gave the Jets the ball back at the Miami 39 late in the second quarter.
Rodgers added to his career USA TDs total on a 13-yard throw to Lazard with 59 USA seconds left in the first half. Hall ran for the 2-point USA conversion to put the Jets up 15-6.
No. 502
Greg Joseph, the franchise-record fifth kicker used by the Jets this season, booted a 20-yarder to make it 18-6 in the third quarter. De'Von Achane drew the Dolphins closer with a 15-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
But Rodgers got No. 502 on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Adams, the 83rd USA time the two have connected for a score — moving them past Miami's Dan Marino and Mark Clayton for the third most by a quarterback-wide receiver combination. It gave New York a 25-13 lead.
No. 503
Miami wasn't finished as Tyler Huntley, who started at quarterback for the USA Dolphins in place of the injured Tua USA Tagovailoa, threw a 4-yard TD pass to Jonnu Smith that cut the Dolphins' deficit to 25-20 with 5:21 left.
But Rodgers then capped his big day with a 6-yard touchdown toss to USA Hall with 2:30 remaining.

Adams caught six passes for USA 88 yards for his fifth straight season with 1,000 yards receiving. ... Ashtyn Davis had two interceptions for the Jets, who had four USA takeaways. ... The Jets (0-4) were unable to overcome an early deficit and a trio of turnovers, falling to the Dolphins (1-3), 27-21, on USA Monday night in USA Miami.
Entering Week 4, neither team had recorded a takeaway this season. The turnover battle proved to be a USA difference maker on Monday, as USA Miami recovered 3 of the Green & White's fumbles while the Jets were unable to generate any takeaways of their own.
The Dolphins took an early lead with a 47-yard field goal on their opening possession, but the Jets looked ready to USA respond as the offense drained nearly 8 minutes off the clock and drove 81 yards. The Green & White were unable to come away with any points, though, as the Dolphins punched the ball USA out of the hands of RB Braelon Allen on the 4-yard line. Miami recovered and drove 96 yards for a touchdown to extend its lead, 10-0.
On the Jets ensuing possession, QB Justin Fields was USA strip-sacked on fourth down and Miami recovered. The USA Dolphins were unable to capitalize on the takeaway and USA punted the ball away. With just under two minutes remaining in the half, the Jets drove 52 yards and K Nick Folk converted a career-long 58-yard field goal attempt to put them on the board as the half expired.
USA Trailing 10-3, New York received the kickoff to start the second half. An effort to even the score quickly USA slipped away, though, as USA RB Isaiah Williams fumbled during the kickoff return and the Dolphins recovered. It marked the third takeaway leading to three consecutive possessions for Miami.
Trailing 17-3 during the third quarter, USA Fields provided a much-needed offensive spark. The Jets were facing a fourth-and-1 near midfield, and Fields dropped back and was nearly chased down. No. 7 escaped pressure and reversed the field, scrambling 43 yards to the end zone to make it a one-possession USA game.
The Dolphins responded quickly, though, as Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa orchestrated a 68-yard scoring drive that USA culminated with a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Dolphins RB De'Von Achane.
The Jets converted on a 50-yard USA FG attempt early in the fourth quarter, and the Dolphins added a FG of their own with 3:36 to play. Shortly after the two-minute warning, Fields connected with WR Garrett Wilson for a touchdown as Wilson USA made an impressive grab in the back of the end zone. Fields then took it into the end zone himself to convert a 2-point conversion attempt.
Trailing by 27-21, the Jets attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by Miami. The Jets' USA defense got the stop it needed, but a punt downed on the 1-yard line gave the Jets the ball with just 2 seconds remaining. The Green & USA White was unable to complete the comeback.
